Same Old Bath Bomb

When giving becomes the same old bath bomb

Ever since last year, my close friend and I have been giving each other gifts in the same category: scented bath items. Last year’s Christmas, I got a bath bomb. Zoom forward a year, I got another bath bomb, just a different one.

Now, I didn’t get some drugstore bath bomb, I got a Lush Handmade Cosmetics bath bomb. Lush’s are the bomb. Their bath bombs are filled with colour, scents and biodegradable glitter, but above all, they do good. The bombs contain skin-loving ingredients with a few that are organic or fair-trade, and they are handmade in a Lush Kitchen close to the shop. Yes, handmade by humans.

Enough about my gift, let’s talk about her’s. I got her a bath bomb, and of course a limited edition Christmas one. That’s not too bad, is it? Well, I did give her one for her birthday back in September… Talk about lack of intuition.

I decided, rashly, to follow her hint after last year’s Christmas, and get her a “Christmas one.” Due to the fact that I was cheap and was running out of time, I made a decision to follow my terrible instincts.

Since Lush is so conveniently located, I took a spin online for many times before making a decision. Then I scoured the shops, and realized the sizes were horribly depicted in the images. Thus, I chose based on last year’s regrets and got her Shoot for the Stars. It was that or Luxury Lush Pud, which was too colourful in my opinion.

I believe if I tried harder, I could have given her a nice surprise. Though, her thankful text says otherwise.

Next year, with some thought and some time, hopefully she will not get another bath bomb, but something she actually looks forward to. Perhaps a gift that will not be gone after a bath and will last for years.

Gifts should come from understanding of the person’s personality and character, not from one sentence of regret.

Blank yellow haze chased the blue skies away

Prevent Fires

Stick your head out the window.

What do you see?

Gleaming towers far away?

Towering green trees?

Or just a blanket of yellow haze,

That hangs lower when the heat comes,

Suffocating everything in smoke,

Beijing was bad,

Now its here in Vancouver,

Chasing the blue to Paradise

Fires burning, no joke.

Don’t smoke in trails.

Please prevent fires,

Hundreds are displaced.

I have a dilemma,

A sturdy problem that works two ways,

The result is the same,

Whichever I choose,

It just narrows down to my morales,

Because S’well won’t keep them,

Like Klean Kanteen does.

To B certified or not to B certified?

A B corporation logo ensures its environmental sound,

Made responsibly, yet sustainably,

S’well has no logo,

No hope that their bottles were made,

Ethically and sustainably,

With non-toxic finishes.

Trash, trash, trash,

It’s filling up dumpsters,

Piles and incinerators,

Discarded Starbucks cups with the lids,

The lids are recyclable!

Throw them in the blue bin and save some waste,

Fish and mammals are choking up plastic,

The microbeads might end up in sushi,

Luckily, minmizing this horror is easy enough,

Use a reusable water-bottles or travel mugs,

Ask for a mug at Starbucks,

Bring a bag to shop,

Refuse condiments,

The Heart and the Truth

Land of Freedom and the constant fear of American dominance,

Home of Justin Trudeau, our Prime Minister,

Producer of Swedish Fish and maple syrup,

Where we all live in igloos,

There’s a lot to protect,  a lot to love,

A lot to fight for in this age,

Donald Trump-perhaps or not,

Evironment and First Nations’ lands,

It’s there and there’s no turning back,

Greenpeace has asked in hope to raise $ 55,000 by the end of December,

Even though, who knows?

Is they’re data biased or really true?

I support them in their cause, but please be careful with the data,

I know it’s hard.

Sustainable means,

Come on,

It’s not so far away,

Close the tap when you brush your teeth,

Use palm-oil free soap and shampoo,

Take one shower less each week,

It will save water and your wallet,

Even your hair!

Little tricks and tiny tips,

Will save money,

And trees,

And animals too,

It’s not that hard!
